They should do a reboot with Leonardo DiCaprio as the dad now! I would definitely sign up for the Growing Pains+ streaming service to binge watch the season before the free trial expires! Marty Scorsese is already signed on to direct, so it would make sense that Leo would be the dad in it. And they uploaded Alan Thicke, so he can be a wacky hologram that only Leo can see and Alan Thicke gives Leo wacky advice that usually involves using a fax machine to solve crimes from podcasts but they don't have a fax machine so in every episode Leo has to find a fax machine and he also consults with the world's leading detectives, The Olsen Twins…

HURRAY FOR GOOD CHEESY FUN!
Best line? Maggie's opponent in the primary, after he lost: "But I'm rich! I'M RICH!!!!!!"
omg, why am I so in love with watching stuff that I KNOW is complete crap?!

It’s a Saturday night and I’m watching The Growing Pains Movie with my spouse. That’s married life in your 40s, folks.
The film itself is …weird, an oddly off-putting political farce that preys on conflict and tension.
Speaking of which, allegedly there was tension between Kirk Cameron and his wife and the rest of the cast (Cameron infamously didn’t invite the cast to their wedding). This results in a film with wonky, stilted humor. It doesn’t help that the writing is weak, and character updates aren’t very satisfying, or fun.
A very odd legacy update. A pure product of the late ‘90s/early 2000s TV-movie boom, not unlike streaming shows these days.
It’s also worth noting that though late-series star Leonardo DiCaprio does not appear in this movie, he gets a funny mention. Wouldn’t that have been wild if he had cameo’ed here!? I digress…
The Growing Pains Movie is available on DVD.

I could not stand Mike Seaver when I was a kid, and I can not stand him now. I never liked the show, but I would rather watch a full season of the show than watch this reunion movie. The story is so saccharine, and cheaply produced. A TV movie can be good, and enjoyable. Not this movie.

Food for the soul. Can't really expect anything less from The Growing Pains. I watched a lot of this show growing up so it was nice to see an "updated" (even though I got to it 20 years later) status. Can we now get an "updated updated" version please? Make sure DiCaprio is in it this time.

Film #4 of
The Time Wasters Film Challenge
TASK #28. A film which is a prequel, sequel or based on a popular tv showAh, Growing Pains, the show I used to patiently sit through to watch Jim Henson's Dinosaurs afterwards. A show I have no real nostalgia for, but once in a while find myself listening to the ever-catchy theme song. So many familiar faces; Kirk Cameron, whose crazy shenanigans in later years compel me to watch his filmography (hence why we are here). Alan Thicke, ever earnest, but mostly remembered today for when everyone felt obligated to mention him whenever talking about his shitty musician son. And Ashley Johnson, who's become much cooler nowadays. And to paraphrase Gilligan's Island, there's... the rest.
But yeah, no rating given simply cause this movie doesn't illicit any strong feelings, much like it's show; it's just there.
